Rotate a mobile proxy's IP from the dashboard or every 60 seconds, 5 or 30 minutes, what clients see during a rotation, and how to keep one IP.

An ipvolt mobile proxy is one device on a carrier network, and its outgoing IP is the address the carrier assigns to that device. You can ask for a new one at any time, or let the device rotate on a schedule.

## Rotate now

In the [dashboard](https://ipvolt.com/dashboard), select **Rotate IP now** on the device. The device reconnects to the carrier and the dashboard reports the result, usually with the new outgoing IP. The carrier can hand back the same IP; if that happens, wait a little and try again.

## Rotate on a schedule

Under **Automatic rotation**, choose an interval and select **Save interval**:

| Setting | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| Off | No scheduled rotation. The IP changes only when you rotate it or the carrier reassigns it. |
| Every 60 seconds | A new IP about every minute. **Enable 60s rotation** sets this in one click. |
| Every 5 minutes | A new IP about every five minutes. |
| Every 30 minutes | A new IP about every half hour. |

The dashboard shows the setting the device last reported.

## What happens during a rotation

Rotation may briefly interrupt traffic. Requests in flight while the device reconnects can fail, and new connections can be refused until the new IP is up. Depending on the client, this shows up as a `502` or `503` on `CONNECT` or as a closed connection; [Tunnel connection failed: 502](/guides/fix-proxy-tunnel-502-503) shows each client's message and a retry pattern. Retry only idempotent requests such as `GET`, and pause your workers around a rotation you start yourself.

## Keep the same IP

For logins, carts and other multi-step sessions, set automatic rotation to **Off** and rotate between sessions. A device has one outgoing IP at a time, so every request through it shares that IP. [Rotating vs sticky proxies](/guides/rotating-vs-sticky-proxies) helps you decide how long a session needs one exit.

## Automation

Rotation and the rotation interval are controlled from the dashboard. There is no public API for them today.
